I haven’t been able to stop looking at pictures of Pamela Anderson. At this week’s British Fashion Awards (ie. London’s Met Ball), where the unspoken dress code is drama, her relaxed and unselfconscious style stood out in a sea of supposedly impactful ensembles. She looked bloody amazing.
I don’t want it to be the most radical thing I’ve seen in a while, because I don’t believe that a woman not wearing make-up and putting on an oversized cream Victoria Beckham suit - instead of the sort of dress my mother would call a ‘gownless evening strap’ - should be an act of rebellion or incredible in any way. (And I loathe the term ‘natural’ for suggesting that even wearing the merest bit of slap is in some way ‘unnatural’.)
So why does it feel so refreshing? How has it managed to cut through the noise to the extent that dozens of women messaged me, when I posted the below image on Instagram, to tell me how amazing they thought it was?
